Parental testing uses genetic fingerprints to determine whether two individuals have a biological parent-child relationship. A paternity test establishes genetic proof as to whether a man is the biological father of an individual, and a maternity test establishes whether a woman is the biological mother of an individual.

Today's DNA testing technology is very safe, much easier and extremely accurate, with reliability rates as high as 99.5%. The actual test is performed using a cotton swab swipe inside the mouth. The sealed cotton swab is then sent to the lab, and the lab will usually return the results within six weeks.
