Interstate Orders can be intricate and bewildering. If you reside in a different state and are affected by a Florida order or require Florida jurisdiction, you have the option to seek enforcement and modification of an existing order.

Interstate Orders

Interstate Orders are complicated and confusing. If you live in another state and are affected by a Florida order or require Florida jurisdiction, you can apply for both enforcement and modification of an existing order.

Example: Both parties lived in New York during the divorce but both relocated to different states. Currently, neither party resides in New York. They decide to address the time sharing or child support aspect of their New York divorce. Because the children now reside in Florida with their mother, the time sharing and child support situation can be addressed in the Florida Courts.

It is not uncommon for divorced parents to live in different states although this complicates a joint custody situation.

A child custody order in one state is valid and enforceable in nearly every other state so custodial parents cannot move across state lines without following certain procedures.

A word of caution if this is your situation: This is a complicated area of law that even some attorneys do not understand. Be sure to call our office and we’ll guide you through this complex process.
